Dive into 18th-century Bordeaux with this mixed reality (MR) immersive experience designed by HoloForge. Guided by the spirit of Modeste Testas, a historical figure enslaved and deported to Saint-Domingue by Bordeaux merchants, visitors walk along the city’s docks, explore the cabin of a slave ship, and uncover the hidden side of its maritime history.
Designed as a technological demonstrator, the work combines interactive storytelling, 3D reconstruction, motion capture animations, and investigative gameplay, all optimized for standalone headsets. Thanks to integrated cameras on the latest devices, the experience blends virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), offering participants a comfortable immersion.
Developed in just one month by our teams, this project illustrates HoloForge’s creative and technical ability to design cultural immersive experiences.
Unlike simple virtual tours or static reconstructions, this experience combines interactive narration, investigative gameplay, and emotional immersion. The visitor is not just a spectator but actively engages with history alongside motion-captured characters in highly realistic 3D environments. Mixed reality integration also anchors the adventure in the physical exhibition space, delivering a unique sense of presence.
This project was designed for Museum Connections 2025 to showcase our ability to produce high-quality immersive experiences in record time. In just one month of development, our teams created a complete storyline, polished artistic direction, realistic animations, and smooth technical integration across multiple platforms. It highlights our efficiency and expertise in the cultural sector, while demonstrating our capacity to adapt these methods to other themes and locations.
The application runs on Pico 4 Ultra and Meta Quest 3, two next-generation standalone headsets that deliver advanced graphics and full freedom of movement. No PC or heavy installation is required, making the experience easily deployable in trade shows, museums, cultural events, or tourist sites.
